NAPLES & CAPRI

Ahhh Italy! And the addresses of Napoli! We had a short three-day weekend in Naples with family for Mama's birthday and I'm taking the opportunity to give you some ideas. Here we go.

NAPLES VOYAGE FERE ITALIE

NAPLES VOYAGE FERE ITALIE
Day 1. The famous pizzeria, "blessed by the Pope", Sorbillo.

We were lucky because the weather was good so we waited an hour (average waiting time) outside the restaurant with drinks, because it's insanely busy and you need to be patient. Inside, the room doesn't look like much, a bit like a canteen. But it's true that the pizzas are super good, the waiters are very cool and smiling. We tried a fried pizza. Yes, you should know that in Napoli EVERYTHING is fried.

Day 2. Capri.

It takes a good half day.
Walking around the town is of little interest unless you're a Rothschild and want to go shopping. It's the town of the Italian jet-set. So we advise you to go all the way to Anacapri. It's very pleasant to stroll through the small streets, look at the houses, the vegetation, the views of the Mediterranean... it's really beautiful. The cliffs with the blue-green sea are incredible.
You'll take a one-person chairlift (true story) to go up and see the view. Funny.

To come back down, we were smart and hiked down the stairs to the port. I'm telling you: you'll work your calves.
Lunch: the only thing open in Anacapri in March was the restaurant: Barbarossa. The calamari (fried) were great and the pasta al vongole not bad, we've had better but the people were very friendly.
In the evening we had dinner at Ecomesara. Which is a bit gourmet, it wasn't amazing but it was next to the apartment so convenient. Not too much stuff on the plate (referring to the family of little eaters). Avoid the sardines, it was a disaster, and the local wine. But again, the service was very kind. (I'm repeating myself about the nice people because it hasn't always been the case so it's good to note it ;)

Day 3. Pompeii

You need to plan a good half day there because after 2 and a half hours, your feet will be tired!

So Pompeii. The city submerged in 79 BC under the ashes, stones, gas, and all the rest from Vesuvius. Nice spot! They only rediscovered the city in the 17th century. Leaving buried all sorts of crazy things including people. Yes, yes, people. The inhabitants were frozen… You'll only see three, we're not in a cemetery either but it's impressive. Otherwise, the site is very beautiful, especially the Villa of Mysteries which is worth the detour with its mosaics and frescoes, the forum is quite impressive, the baths, the brothel: the lupanar and its erotic scenes. You can see more remains and phalluses by going to the Archaeological Museum of Naples. It's good to do both, you really get an idea of what Pompeii could have looked like. Well, everything they could discover after 17 centuries buried.

On the way back, and since we hadn't eaten anything all day, we stopped at I love Mortadelle, because in addition to liking to eat, we are not vegetarians at all. The place looks like nothing, it's a tiny shop, just to grab small sandwiches, two or three slices of Mortadella and hit the road, but it was great so I wanted to mention it. For those with a sweet tooth, you should know that the city's specialty is also Baba au rhum, everyone advises going to Scaturchio. So yes, they are pretty good there, but there are others elsewhere just as good, however, the other pastries whose names I absolutely did not remember were better.

Of course, I illustrated my stay with two illustrations. The first, the famous Neapolitan pastry, the Sfogliatelle and the second, Capri and its chairlift.

Visit the e-shop if you would like a print!
